Landing two players on the All-Tournament Team, the Bluffton College women's basketball team took home the runner-up spot in the Baldwin-Wallace Marcia French Tournament last weekend in Berea. BC beat Upper Iowa University Friday night 77-68 before falling to host B-W in the tourney championship contest 84-56.
Junior post players Liz Bock and Elizabeth Snavely were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Snavely led the way with 30 points and collected 16 rebounds in the two-game tournament, while Bock scored 29 points and had 11 rebounds.
In Friday's game against Upper Iowa, BC overcame a 30-29 halftime deficit to earn a nine point victory and begin the 1999-2000 season with a victory. Bluffton placed four players in double figures, led by freshman Kristin Helvey who dropped in 15.
Bock added 14 points and five boards while junior Bree Wood made eight of 10 free throw attempts and finished with 12 points. Snavely was the fourth Beaver in double figures with 10 points and she added a team-high eight rebounds.
In Saturday afternoon's championship contest against host Baldwin-Wallace, Snavely dropped in 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough as BC fell 84-56. Bock added 15 markers and six boards and was 7-7 from the charity stripe. Freshman Michele Ray chipped in nine points.
Bluffton faced Cedarville College on Tuesday night in their first home game of the season, and will be in action again Tuesday night in Founders Hall for 7:30 p.m. contest against Heidelberg College.
