Bluffton women knock off HCAC-leader Franklin, 67-53

BC will host HCAC first-round tournament game Tuesday night in Founders Hall.

The Bluffton College women's basketball team knocked off the Heartland Conference's first place team, Franklin College, by the final score of 67-53 Saturday afternoon in Founders Hall.

Bluffton is now 7-5 in the HCAC and in third place. The Heartland Conference tournament will tip off Tuesday night, as BC will host either Manchester College or the College of Mount St. Joseph in Founders Hall. Franklin is now 10-2 in the HCAC and 15-9 overall.

Bluffton junior center Elizabeth Snavely (Defiance) scored 27 points and collected 12 rebounds to lead BC to it's 14 point win.

The win marks Bluffton's second win over a top-ranked Franklin College team, as the BC men's team knocked off Franklin 94-92 exactly one month ago, January 19.

Franklin led by as many as seven points early in the game, but a 15-2 run by the Beavers to close the first half put BC up 12 going into the locker room at half time. Bluffton did not trail at any time in the second half and scored 11 of the game's final 12 points to seal the victory.

Franklin shot just 29% from the floor in the game as BC held high-scoring FC 6-1 center Anne Heile to six points on 2-11 shooting.

Bluffton's Jen Bear (Grover Hill/Lincolnview) added 10 points and nine rebounds, while Kristin Helvey (Toledo/Central Catholic) chipped in nine points and dished out four assists.

Tiffany Pittman led Franklin with 14 points.

Official pairings of the 2000 HCAC women's basketball tournament will be announced on Sunday from the conference office.
