BC men earn runner-up trophy in Greensboro Tournament

The Bluffton College men's basketball team made a long trip payoff last weekend as they earned a second place finish in the Greensboro College, N.C. Tip-off Tournament. BC knocked off host Greensboro on Friday night 91-81 before falling in the tournament championship to the Savannah College of Art and Design 78-70 on Saturday.

Bluffton was led by All-Tournament Team selection Jeremy Roberts who scored 26 and 27 points in the two-game affair. The junior post player hit on 18 of 36 field goal attempts in the tournament and shot 77% from the free throw line to go along with four assists and three steals.

Sophomore Rod Overmyer was on fire from three-point land in Friday's lid-lifter against Greensboro. He hit seven of eight 3-point attempts and finished the contest with a career-high 22 points. Junior post player Ben Coole added 15 points and seven rebounds while junior wing Chad Cramer chipped in 13 markers and collected six boards.

Bluffton forced 20 Greensboro turnovers in the game and held the hosts to just 32% from the field in the first half. BC held a 41-31 half-time lead on their way to the victory.

On Saturday night BC met the Savannah College of Art and Design for the tournament championship, falling 78-70 despite 27 points and 14 rebounds from Roberts. Bluffton led at the intermission 36-25 but gave up 53 points in the second half to surrender the loss.

The Beavers connected on 50% of their shots from the field and hit five of eight three-point attempts in the game, led by Cramer who knocked down three of four. He finished with 13 points and four assists, while junior guard Alberto Arroyo added 11 points.

BC was to have been in action at home on Wednesday night against Adrian College and will journey to Ada on Saturday night for a 7:30 game with Ohio Northern University. The game will be broadcast on WIMA radio.

Next week Bluffton will travel to Defiance College on Wednesday night for a 7:30 game, with the pre-game show on WDOH radio beginning at 6:50 p.m. BC will return to Founders Hall next Saturday for a 3:00 game with Temple Baptist College.
