Bluffton takes down Thomas More in overtime


The Bluffton College men's basketball team overcame a visiting Thomas More College squad in overtime Saturday afternoon 83-82 in Founders Hall.

Thomas More led by four at halftime and went up by as many as many as 11 points in the second half. Bluffton took its first lead with 1:43 left in regulation, and a free throw by Jeremy Roberts (Bucyrus/Wynford) with :23 seconds left tied the game at 71-71, which is where it stood at the end of the second half.

A jumper by Thomas More's Chris Dittman with :11 left in overtime gave the Saints a one-point lead, but Roberts sunk a spinning layup with :02 to win the game for the Beavers.

Roberts led all scorers with 24 points on 8-12 shooting. Ben Coole (Butler/Clear Fork) added 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Rod Overmyer (Payne/Wayne Trace) nailed four three-pointers on his way to 18 points. Chris Sheldon (Bucyrus/Wynford) scored eight points and dished out eight assists.

Thomas More (5-15) was led by Corey Grace with 21 points and 19 rebounds.

Bluffton is now 10-10 overall on the season, with their next Heartland Conference game coming Wednesday night against Anderson University at 7:30 p.m. in Founders Hall.
