Bluffton falls in first HCAC game


In the first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game of the season for both teams, Anderson University beat Bluffton College Wednesday night 85-72 at the O.C. Lewis Gymanasium in Anderson.

The Ravens (9-3, 1-0 HCAC) shot 48 percent in the first half and hit 10 of their 11 foul shots to race to a 41-25 halftime lead. AU finished the first half with a 10-3 run and shot 51% from the floor overall in the game.

Jeremy Roberts led Bluffton (7-5, 0-1 HCAC) with 23 points, while Ben Coole added 17. Travis Elsass had a solid night for the Beavers, as well, hitting five of 10 shots from the floor, including all three 3-point attempts, and was 2-2 from the free throw line for 15 points. He also shared team-high assist honors with Chris Sheldon with five.

Freshman Justin Julian scored a season-high 13 points, also hitting three treys.

The two teams will meet again at Bluffton on February 9th.
