Smotrila named Player of the Week

Bluffton College defensive back Jarret Smotrila, (Leetonia, OH, Crestview High School) was named the Defensive Player of the Week in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for his efforts in last Saturday's down-to-the-wire loss to Hanover College, Ind. 41-38. The senior four-year starter recorded 10 tackles, including one behind the line of scrimmage, had one interception and blocked an extra point attempt.

Smotrila leads BC in interceptions with three and is now second in the HCAC in that category. He has 35 return yards on those pickoffs and also has 28 tackles, two pass breakups and has blocked a punt and an extra point attempt. Smotrila is currently third on the Bluffton career interception list with 13 picks, and is ranked first in career interception return yardage with 191.

Bluffton is 3-1 this season and suffered a tough loss to #17 Hanover College last Saturday as the Panthers kept their undefeated record in tact at 4-0. The Beavers are currently ranked #41 in the latest AFCA Division III Coaches' Poll and will be at Wabash College this Saturday.
