Beavers drop opening Heartland Conference series to Anderson

The Bluffton University baseball team (4-15, 1-5 HCAC) lost four games in action last
week. The Beavers first dropped a non-conference matchup to Cedarville University
7-6 in 10 innings on March 29. The team then lost three games to Heartland Conference
foe Anderson University 4-1, 6-4 and 8-6 in eight innings over the weekend.
The Beavers will be back in play on April 5 when they travel to Wilmington College.
First pitch for the nine-inning game is scheduled for 3 p.m. The team will then host
Franklin College on April 8 and 9 at Sears Field for the three game HCAC series. The
single game on April 8 is scheduled for 4 p.m. with the Saturday doubleheader starting
at 12 noon.
Senior Jason Moore (Elida/Elida) leads Bluffton offensively with a .370 batting average and posts 20 hits and 10 RBI's. Freshman Kyle White (Berne, Ind./South Adams) ranks second on the team in hitting with a .349 batting average and leads the squad in hits (22), RBI's (17) and slugging percentage (.397). Junior Tony Gerig (West Unity/Hilltop) posts a .344 batting average with 22 hits (tie for first on team) and 24 total bases.
Jason Moore continues to lead the pitching staff with a 3.62 ERA. Moore owns a 1-3 record on the mound with one shutout, 16 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .279. Freshman Tim Kay (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity) has recorded 17 strikeouts to lead the team with junior Randy Miller (Willard/Willard) retiring 14 batters on the year.
