Annual Athletic Awards
2012-2013 Athletic Award Winners: Thomas Gingrich, A.C. Burcky Award; Madison Moore, Kathryn E. Little Award
The A.C. Burcky Award is "presented annually to the Senior athlete who has proven himself to be the most exemplar of all college products. A man who demonstrates correctness in habit and dress and gives evidence of much professional growth. Who has won leadership through fellowship that was promoted, and who kept himself loyal to truth and the sacred profession of friendship." -A. C. Burcky
The Kathryn E. Little Award is presented to an outstanding senior woman athlete or athletes who deserve(s) special recognition for four years of participation in at least one sport. The award is based on scholarship, academic abilities and campus leadership.
The award is named after Kate, a long-time friend, teacher, coach and supporter of Bluffton University. Mrs. Little served in the department of HPER and athletics from 1958 to 1974 and was instrumental in making the women's athletic program what it is today. In 1974 she was a member of the first-ever induction class into the Bluffton Athletic Hall of Fame.
The Larry W. Jones Memorial Award is presented annually to a non-athlete (student, faculty/staff member or citizen) "in recognition of interest, support and significant contributions to Bluffton University Athletics."
The award is named after Larry Jones, who graduated from Bluffton University in 1970. He participated in varsity basketball while at Bluffton and later served as an athletic official before being killed in an automobile accident in 1978.
