Scholarships and grants

We believe nothing should ever stand in the way of the person you were meant to become. All Bluffton students receive one or more of the following Bluffton scholarships and grants. 

First-year students may be eligible to receive one of the following awards:

SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITIONS

Presidential Scholarship Competition

 

Presidential Scholarship Competition
Students with a 3.5 GPA (or higher) and a 24 ACT/1200 SAT (or higher) automatically qualify to participate in the annual Presidential Scholarship Competition on either Nov. 10, 2018, or Feb. 16, 2019. Students attending these events compete for one of two full-tuition Presidential scholarships.

This scholarship is renewable all four years, if student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA, making it valued at more than $140,000 over four years.

Music Scholarships

 

Performing Scholarship competition
Four $21,000 scholarships will be awarded to winners of the Performing Scholar Competition. Music majors with a minimum 3.2 GPA and 22 ACT/1050 SAT are eligible to compete. To be eligible, audition before Feb. 16. Contact the music department by Feb. 1 to schedule your audition.

Academic scholarships

  • Academic Excellence Scholarship
    This prestigious $18,000 award (valued at $72,000 for four years) is given to high-achieving students who have distinguished academic records and accomplishments, based on GPA and ACT/SAT scores at time of admittance.
  • Academic Honors with Distinction Scholarship
    This $16,000 annual scholarship (valued at $64,000 for four years) is awarded to new students with high academic standing who have proven themselves in the classroom and beyond. It is awarded based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT score at time of admittance. This scholarship is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
  • Trustees Scholarship
    This $15,000 annual scholarship (valued at $60,000 for four years) is named in honor of Bluffton University's trustees who actively invest their time and resources into Bluffton students. Awarded to new students based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT score at time of admittance. This scholarship is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 2.5 GPA.
  • Centennial Scholarship
    This $12,000 annual scholarship (valued at $48,000 for four years) is named in recognition of the 100+ years of education that Bluffton University has provided students in preparing them to impact the global community. Awarded to new students based on high school GPA and ACT/SAT score at time of admittance. This scholarship is renewable all four years if student maintains a cumulative 2.3 GPA.

 

Academic department scholarships

  • Austin E. Knowlton Memorial Scholarship 
    A $4,000 scholarship (valued at $16,000 for four years) is awarded to a top student in a science, technology or math field. Recipient must be an Ohio resident.  >>> more information
  • Natural & Applied Sciences Scholarship
    Students majoring in math, physics, chemistry, biology, pre-med or dietetics may apply for a $3,000 science scholarship. Qualifying students will be invited to interview for this scholarship which is renewable all four years.  >>> more information
  • Music Major Scholarship
    A $2,000 scholarship (valued at $8,000 for four years) is awarded to new Bluffton students majoring in music based on an audition for Bluffton University music faculty.    >>> more information
  • Music Ensemble Scholarship
    A $1,000 award (valued at $4,000 for four years) is awarded to new Bluffton students, not majoring in music, based on an audition for Bluffton University music faculty.   >>> more information
  • Art Scholarship
    A $1,000 scholarship (valued at $4,000 for four years) is awarded to new Bluffton students whose art portfolios are highly rated by Bluffton University art faculty. Portfolios must be submitted no later than March 1 for consideration. >>> more information

 

Additional grants

  • Mennonite Student Grant
    A $7,000 award (valued at $28,000 for four years) is given to new students who are members of a Mennonite congregation.
  • Community Enrichment Grant
    A $2,000 award (valued at $8,000 for four years) is given to new students from under-represented backgrounds at Bluffton. Students must submit an application for consideration. Recipients of this award are to participate in Bluffton's mentorship program.       >>> Community enrichment grant information
  • Alumni Grant
    A $1,000 award is given to new first-year and new transfer students whose parents, grandparents or siblings are part of Bluffton University's 14,900+ alumni.
  • Out-of-State Grant
    A $1,000 award (valued at $4,000 for four years) is given to new, out-of-state students to help off-set travel costs.
  • Church Matching Grant
    Matches dollars provided by any Christian church congregation to a student member attending Bluffton.  >>> Church matching grant information
  • Bluffton Opportunity Grant
    Awarded to students based on completion of the FAFSA form. This award can be added to the above awards. This grant is awarded based on need as determined by the  FAFSA. Amounts vary.
  • International Student Grant 
    The grant ranging from $1,000-$9,000 recognizes that international students encounter additional costs to travel to Bluffton University. $1,000 is automatically given to all qualified applicants and new students may apply for up to $9,000 based on financial need. This grant is renewable for four years.
